Wizz by Wedensday

Such a busy day but I did take time out to photograph the ornamental plums that grow outside my front door!  I had to - they just came into full bloom on Monday and that means that by Tuesday night you can guarantee some windy weather and probably a bit of rain thrown in to blow/wash away the petals.  Made sure I got my pics this morning before too much damage done.

Drove Guitar Hero and guitars to school early - and straight back home to whip up a batch of cookies.  I mentioned to fellow quilter that i would bake for today's working bee and here is her request.....I had lost the recipe but had given her a copy.  Promised if she emailed me a copy I would make the cookies.
I got the email safely!  Check the last line for the added instruction she added!

Oatmeal Almond Cookies

1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour, sifted
2 tspn ground cardamon, sifted
1 cup sugar
1 egg lightly beaten
11/2 cups flaked almonds
125 gms butter, chopped
1 tbspn golden syrup
2 tbspn boiling water
1 tspn bi carb soda

Preheat oven to 200c.  Line trays with baking paper.  Combine oats, flour, cardamon, sugar & almonds in a large bowl.  Heat butter & syrup in saucepan over low heat until butter is just melted. Set aside . Combine water & bi carb in small jug. Add bi carb mix to butter mix. Stir.
Add butter mix and egg to oat mix & stir to combine.  Put tablespoonfuls of mix onto trays, 5cm apart.  Bake 15 - 20 mins or until golden.  Cool.

Serve on Wednesday to Andrea, YUM!

We worked hard today - there were four of us and we hauled all the groups fabric stash onto my kitchen table and sorted and folded.  now everything is stacked in neat piles.  Piles for colours, piles for novelty and stripes and checks.  Ugly fabrics and yucky poly batting which I refuse to use donated to St Vinnies.  We had a HUGE green tub filled with all sorts of bits that we had put together into "kits" but it really needed to be sorted and now it is done.  I will take photos tomorrow.

We also managed to layer the three quilts that I brought back from the Quilts for Queensland day.  Andrea had bordered the two that needed it and pieced the backing for the third.  I have two to quilt and Andrea has one.  Maybe they will get done this weekend.

Tonight in between taxiing Fly Boy to cadets I had a couple of hours at my sewing group/class.  I spent my time cutting out the September block for the LQS BOM.  As before I am doing a red and white version and a pink and orange version.  That is about all I got done - too tired to start sewing when I only had ten more minutes before I had to go and collect Fly Boy again.

Most of the day at home tomorrow so I think it will be paper piecing day - - Bruce's quilt!  Right now I hear my bed calling my name........

Till next time............happy stitching!

  2. Sound like spring is in the air---with a tad more winter blowing around. Here we have dropped from 100's down to the 80's. What a relief from the heat. Have fun with the girls at you bee. Save a cookie for me.

  3. What a lovely tree. Glad you got a picture. That sounds like cherry trees here. My plum has very small flowers but they hang on a long time.
I can't believe all you get done while playing chauffer. I get tired just reading it.

  5. Looks like spring has sprung. What beautiful trees. How wonderful that is to walk out to such wonderful colors. I just hope the wind and the rain does not get to them.
    Hugs
