OMG 250!!!!

Oh My Goodness!!!!  This is my 250th post and what's more, people are still following me and reading my posts!  Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!  I am planning a giveaway for sorts but it has to wait - maybe for my 300th.  Why does it have to wait?  Because there are a few things that I need to get done first and I really want to include something handmade in the goodies!

On a more mundane level it has been a big day today sewing wise.  I was determined to finish the quilt top for Bruce.  First I sewed the rows together - that was the easy part.  I cut one and a half inch strips of the stripey fabric with a blue stripe down the middle of each strip and used that as a border, mitring the corners.

Next I pieced the strippy border using all the scraps.  Once I had pieced the great long border piece I knew I didn't have enough to go all the way around, but as luck would have, it I had enough as long as I used something else in the corners.  Luckily again there was enough for the four patch blocks and their borders and then the border panels fit in between almost perfectly!   Grrr Why are my photos so blurry!
And now Ta Da!!!!  The top is finished.  Normally I don't do anything this fiddly at night time - that is usually no time for measuring and pressing and accuracy of this sort but I was determined to get it done so I cranked up the radio (to drown out Guitar Hero's electric guitar) and sewed like a woman possessed.  And how did I celebrate when I finished at 9pm?  I made a batch of chocolate chip cupcakes!!!   Nuts?  Yeah probably but Guitar Hero is wanting more stuff in his lunch box each day but he is really fussy.  He has even agreed to have FRUIT!!!!!  as long as it is a mandarin coz he doesn't want to work too hard to eat it!  (and no I am not joking!)  I am running out of ideas so thought I would try these.
Most of the choc bits sank to the bottom but the cake mix was lovely and light and really delicious and yes, I taste tested this one straight after the photo was taken!  By tomorrow morning there will be choc icing on these and one or two will go with Guitar Hero's lunch box.

I had hoped to be able to complete piecing the backing tomorrow but....hmmmm....I had a great idea for the back tonight whilst sewing and although it involved @#%@^#%$^@%$ paper piecing, not my favourite activity, I am going to give it a go.  I know what I have in mind will really appeal to Bruce and his wife Barbara's sense of humour  and after all isn't that what you need when you are ill?

No hints......I will share my progress as I go though and you will have to guess what it is going to be.

Now I am pooped and it is bedtime.............till next time.....happy stitching!

  2. What a day------a creative day no less. The quilt just keeps getting better and better as you work on it. Teenagers, they are a kick-----doesn't want to work too hard at eating it. Guess it can't get easier than a mandarine orange. Post 250-----congratulations, when did you start your blog? Keep on posting and I will keep on reading.
