Cookies, Shoe Boxes and Scraps!

Wow!  What a busy couple of days.  First up yesterday I started the day by making cookies - 6 batches of cookies!  They went to school today to be sold at the tastes of Spring Festival - kind of like the School Fete but with a fancy name!  I made a double batch each of Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I know I have posted the recipe for these before but I can't remember where so here it is again.

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

125g butter
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar lightly packed
½ teasp vanilla
1 egg
1 ¾ cups self raising flour
½ teasp salt
125g chocolate bits
60g walnut pieces

Cream together butter, sugars and vanilla.  Add lightly beaten egg gradually, beating well after each addition.  Mix in sifted flour and salt.  Add chocolate bits and walnuts, mix well.  Shape teasp of mixture into small balls,  place on lightly greased trays, allow room for spreading.  Bake in a moderate oven 10 minutes 10-12 minutes.

Then I made a batch of Golden Cinnamon Cookies - they smell wonderful!

GOLDEN CINNAMON BISCUITS

60g butter
1/3 cup golden syrup
2 tabsp brown sugar
2 tabsp caster sugar
1 ¼ cups SR flour
3 teasp cinnamon

Preheat oven to hot.  Combine butter, golden syrup and sugars in medium bowl. Cool 5 minutes.  Stir in flour and cinnamon.  Roll teaspoonfuls into balls and then roll in sugar.  Place 2cm apart on lightly greased trays.  Bake in a hot oven till golden brown.  Stand 5 minutes then put on racks to cool.

And finally I made a batch of Milo Cookies and topped each one with a chocolate freckle lolly.

MILO COOKIES

125g butter
¾ cup caster sugar
1 egg
1 ½ cups SR flour
½ cup Milo

Preheat oven to 180°/160°C fan forced.  Beat butter and sugar until pale.  Beat in egg.  Stir in SR flour and Milo.  Roll into balls.  Place on lined baking trays and flatten.  Bake 15 minutes.
Once they had all cooled a friend and I packed them  all into labelled cellophane bags tied up with curing ribbon and packed them into this box.  I don't know about you but it doesn't look like 6 batches to me!

I sat down to do some sewing last night, after having done a bit of cutting out in the afternoon and guess what i discovered!  My trusty mini travel iron had stopped working!   Big sad face!  My DH gave this to me for Mother's Day and I love it.  It sits alongside where I sew and it is so light and easy to use.  I can't be without it so I went straight online and ordered a replacement.  Hopefully it will come soon.
I went ahead with my sewing and this is what I ended up with.
These are 8 little draw string bags.  They are going to be included in shoe boxes of clothes, toiletries and school supplies being taken to children in Vietnam.  A young lady I know is going as part of a mission group and the shoe boxes will be distributed by them to children in need.  My girlfriends and I have set a goal to fill 4 boxes for boys and 4 for girls.  These little bags will hold their toothbrushes, toothpaste, comb and soap.  I hope to make another set of bags to hold school supplies.

Today has also been busy. I had a little bit of time to myself this morning and used it to do some cutting out for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  The colour for this month is black and I have decided to make some place mats for our kitchen table.  Black on its own is a bit boring so I am adding in a bit of red and green, using scraps of course.  I am cutting tumbler shapes.  I have never sewn with them before but I am dying to try so place mats seem like a good starting point!
Tonight was movie night again and the movie was Fly Boy's choice - "Iron Man 2".  Oh joy!  I "watched" it whilst sitting at the kitchen table cutting out more scraps into more tumblers.  they will either be more bright coloured place mats or maybe a quilt.  No rush to use them.   At least they take up a whole lot less space like this and are ready to use whenever I want them!

Tomorrow I will probably play with black scraps again because I won't get a lot of sewing time and can't do anything that needs a lot of concentration.  Monday however it is straight back into working on Bruce's quilt.  I have plans for it but no hints!

Till next time......happy stitching!
