Reappearing D9P!

I was up yesterday morning before the rest of the family and it was lovely to sit in my sewing room and sew in peace while they all slept.  The first thing I worked on was another Japanese Lunch bag.  Funny thing is that I have sewn so many of these but this time I forgot to split the casing for the draw string.   I have been making laundry bags for soldiers with just one draw string and automatically did the same thing with this one.  I don't think it will matter though.  I think it will pull up just fine but I had to laugh  when I had finished with it.  This is a gift for a friend this Friday so it is one I can cross off my TO DO list so that is great.
As yesterday was scrappy Saturday for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and as this month's colour is brown I pulled out the blocks for the Disappearing Nine Patch that i showed you here and started cutting them up and arranging them on the design wall.  They aren't my first choice for colour but this is a gift for a friend.  I was going to make this quilt and give it to my aunt and uncle earlier this year but my friend saw the blocks and lovingly stroked them and said how much she LOVED the colours so i made something else for the Aunt and Uncle and put this away to finish for Christmas.
There are other things I need to finish before this quilt but I will keep working on it on Saturdays until I get those things done.  And it is legitimately using scraps from my brown stash as I cut an extra 4 nine patch blocks just using brown scraps to make it a bit bigger.

I did also work on another Aussie Hero Quilt yesterday too using strips leftover from the last one we made but I didn't get a photo before I had to take it off the design wall to put the D9P up.   Hopefully I will get the top sewn together later today and I can take a photo then.  It is just going to be an extra one sent for someone who needs a bit of love.  I figured I might just keep making them when I get time or when I want a bit of mindless sewing to do.  Once it gets too late to send them as the weather is warming up I will put the quilt tops away and wait till next Christmas to send them, if our boys are still there.

Till next time.............happy Stitching

  1. It is totally amazing how much you can achieve when everyone else is asleep still... I do a lot of hand sewing in my sewing room before the house stirs or if I have a project that needs lots of work this is extra time... you have managed a lots too but then again I am also amazed at what you accomplish each day anyway xxx

  2. The browns look great in your D9P, the nice thing about making quilts for other people is that it gives us an excuse to expand our fabric selections. Your quilt has a warm fall feel to it.
