Four down...

Before I forget - I am looking for some suggestions.  What method does everyone use to make labels?  I have tried making labels with pigma pens but I have a quilt that has been washed a number of times and the pigma pen has almost faded away.  I have been printing labels using Printable Fabric from here but now they are going out of business - aghgghg!  So, there must be a better way.  Hope someone out there has a good suggestion......

Two more potholders down -

only 16 everyday ones to go and 20 Christmas ones.  I think I need to spend more time cutting some more out as I seem to have a lot of green ones cut out and not enough other colours.

I will finish what I have cut out though before I cut out more.    I picked out a bundle of food fabrics the other day - that sounds perfect for pot holders doesn't it?  Once I have a bunch sewn I will decide which ones can go to the International Charity Bazaar and which ones I keep.   The ones I keep I will use as gifts or giveaways.

My internet has been playing up big time tonight - on and off all night so heaven only knows when I can going to get this posted.  If the blog go quiet for longer than normal it will be because my internet has died!  Oh please don't let that happen!

Till next time.................happy stitching!

  1. I can't confirm the colorfastness of this method, but you can print directly on fabric with your ink jet printer. Press a piece of cotton fabric to the shiny side of a piece of freezer paper..I use 8.5 x 11 inches. Run it through the printer just as you would regular paper. The only tricky part is getting it to feed properly. Heat set it with a hot iron. Might be worth a try!

  2. I can't help with a different method as I too use the pigma pens. So far mine haven't faded. I put two, sometimes 3, layers of ink down though so I have a thicker more substantial line of writing, if that makes any difference.

Looks like you've been busy with pinwheels!

  3. I have not tried printing onto fabric. But I have ordered labels from :
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/JennifersJewels

I am very happy with them, I have a couple of different styles. I also have ordered labels from Spoonflower.com. I made them big enough that I can write the name and date on them. (you can see them on my blog here http://butterflyquilting.blogspot.com/2011/02/labelsmy-thoughts.html )
    good luck

  7. I use Pigma Pens on muslin for my labels. I do give them a light press when finished. Think I read somewhere where that helps to set the ink. Use a pressing cloth of course.

  9. My Bernina has letters in it. I will say pieced and quilted by donna 2012. That gets sewn on the binding. If you are interested let me know I am happy to help you.

  10. Those are a cute pair...I really like green and pink together. I like getting all the cutting out of the way as best I can so I get to sew whenever time allows.
