Just as well I checked.

I bet I am not the only one who has done this but that doesn't make it any less annoying!  Ho hum!  I spent some time yesterday sewing my purple and red heart quilt blocks together and then just before I went out to dinner last night I lay it out on my bed so I could take a picture of it to show my girlfriends.  That is when I had discovered it!  Spot the obvious error.  Hmmmm.....
Never mind - a little bit of unsewing and a bit more sewing and this is what it is supposed to look like - yay!

Next step is going to be a narrow border of red, then a wider purple border, then quilt, bind and use to snuggle!  All that will have to wait til next Scrappy Saturday as I need to get onto my other UFOs.

Cute story!  Fly Boy has a girl (as in female) friend (as opposed to a GIRLFRIEND) at church.  They have arranged that she would catch a bus to our local shopping centre and I would drop Fly Boy off there. They then dined on the culinary delights of MacDonalds (yuck) and then were intending to walk to church together, except that it rained so DH had to go and collect them and drive them to church.   The cute bit?  Said FEMALE friend asked FB to ask me if I would make another Honeycomb Log, like the one I served last time she was here, so she could take it back to her family to taste!  She would bring me the ingredients to replace ones I use.  When I drove to church to collect FB his FEMALE FRIEND came to the car to collect the dessert so she could take it straight her folks' car to go home.  I think that is really cute.  But I have to confess that the cake is too simple to make.

Take some whipped cream, mix in a crushed chocolate coated honeycomb bar (Crunchie of Violet Crumble - sorry, I don't think they have them in America you poor things!)  and then take some plain chocolate biscuits like CHOCOLATE RIPPLES and sandwich them with the cream, form a log shape, or a cake shape and cover with the rest of the cream.  Wait til the next day so that the cream is absorbed into the biscuits and softens them and then cut and serve.  Very rich, very yummy, very much liked by my son.  Just as well he is a skinny 6ft teenager and can afford to eat coz I won't be touching a bite!

Did a bit more cooking today - Milo Cookies.  Milo is a chocolate malted drink powder that you add to milk to drink - big favourite of kids here in Oz.  Very simple cookies.
Tomorrow I am going to deliver the last nine Quilts for Queensland to Corrie from retromummy.  She is collecting quilts to send up there and told me today she has requests for more than 70 so far.  Corrie is mum to four under five!!!!!!  As Mum of twins myself I take my hat off to her and I reckon she will be able to find a use for some Milo cookies seeing as the school holidays are on so I will be dropping off a few cookies PLUS the quilts tomorrow.

I won't bore you will all the quilt photos as I am sure that I have shown you most of them here but these are three that you haven't seen completed.  The first was given to us as an incomplete project - all the applique had been fused but not all the sewing and embroidery had been completed.  It really came to life once the  facial features were added.

A small hole needed to be repaired as well, hence the heart being held by the teddy at the bottom.  I wish I knew where it came from as I would love whoever started it to see what it has become.

In this quilt we were given four kaleidoscope blocks and the rest of the quilt grew from there.
Finally with this one we were given all the teddy blocks.  All the teddies had been beautifully appliqued but they needed their faces embroidered, then they were bordered and sashed and there you have it a cute quilt for a little boy or girl!
I still have a couple of hours sewing time left tonight so I am about to decide what to get stuck into.  I will let you know tomorrow.  There are a few other quilty treats in store for me tomorrow but you will have to wait to find out what they are.  In the mean time I am going to enjoy some peace and quiet while the menfolk in the family hunker down in front of the TV and watch a DVD of SAW II - as far as I am concerned that equates to YUCK II!   I think I will stick with my sewing!

Till next time

Happy stitching!

  2. Oh, Jan-Maree! I love that red and purple quilt! It turned out so nice! It seems like I make some sort of mistake on just about all my quilts. Drives me nuts. At least the mistakes are easily fixed! I really like the plaid borders around the teddy bears...too cute!

I think I got a sugar high just from looking at your Honeycomb Log!

  5. I thought the top pattern looked lovely. I saw a pretty ribbon in the middle with other trailing ribbons all around. Then of course I scrolled down to see the four hearts and it all made sense. Sounds like you have been busy in the kitchen, glad there are lots of volunteers to eat it all up!
