What else do you do on the rainiest April day in years!

There is not much else you can do but bake and sew.  But seriously it has poured on and off all day today.  I am so glad that I didn't have to go out anywhere coz these are the sorts of days that I love to be home in the kitchen or my sewing room and today I did a bit of both.   First up I made cupcakes for  my neighbour who threw a baby shower for her DIL.  What a lovely MIL!  She bought the cute sugar decorations online and I did the rest.  Love the cute safety pins.

 And the little yellow ducks!
As soon as the cakes were delivered I got stuck into my purple quilt.  This is my project for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  This month, unlike other months I am trying to stick to just sewing on Scrappy Saturday for the challenge so that I get my other projects done.
Last weekend I managed to sew all the blocks together and that was it.

During the course of the week I decided what fabric to use for the borders and binding.  First I gave the seams a good iron, then added borders, pieced the backing and just managed to get the quilt pinned and quilted before dinner.  I am probably going to go back and do some more quilting on this one but I want to end off all the loose ends first so they don't get in the way.
I chose the same fabric for the red border and for the bindings.  You can't see it here but it has hearts all over it which seemed rather appropriate don't you think?

I only quilted this one simply a row each side of the block seams and then around the borders.  I am planning to add some FMQ to it but that will have to wait till after the kids go back to school as I doubt there will be time before then.  I am so frustrated that I can't find any of my self threading needles as i use them for threading in the loose ends as they make the job so quick.  I will have to buy some tomorrow.  maybe I will get it done on the way to our holiday destination on Monday.   Luckily I can sew and read in the car and also luckily my husband likes to drive for the longer trips.
Well that is about it for me tonight.  Hopefully I will have time to post tomorrow night after I finish the packing otherwise it won't be until at least Wednesday night.

Till next time....happy stitching!
