Yay! Another UFO bites the dust. I started this cross stitch AGES ago - can't even hazard a guess when it was started but I finished it today. I can remember stitching on it while my sons did swimming lessons and they quit those in 2007! My son Linton also did a little bit of it so now it has sentimental importance to me as I am lucky if he even talks to me these days - teenagers are such a delight - and no, of course he doesn't read my blog!
It is only small - about 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches so I think I feel a cushion coming on.
I am still working on my purple hearts quilt - I am trying to decide how to finish it. Today I finished sewing the remainder of the fill in blocks and now I am putting it away till Scrappy Saturday when I will decide if I like the purple fabric for a border. I think I do. I love this fabric. I bought it years ago to use as a backing on a large quilt and then decided that it wasn't quite right. If I use it for the border I will also use it for the backing! There will still be a heap leftover but that is fine. I also need to decide if the border is fine as it is or if I need to add a tiny border of the watermelon red colour - if I have enough. Comments please.......
I am determined to FMQ this one - what have I got to lose? It is mostly scraps and I am definitely keeping it.
A big tidy up in my sewing room was well and truly over due today. Always feels so much better to be sitting down to a tidy sewing table! Still have to work on the cupboards but that can wait till after the school holidays which start this Friday. EEEK!
Have done a little sewing on my Love Thy Neighbour wall hanging tonight. Still plenty of work to do it on but any work on a UFO brings me closer to the end of the list doesn't it!
Time for bed I think - Happy stitching..........

Personal opinion-----I would just add your narrow border of red and use the purple flower on the back. Love the purple and red.
ReplyDeleteCute cross stitch. I have one I need to finish up too!
ReplyDeleteSo love your stitchery.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to decide as to whether that border is enough?
Very pretty border fabric! I think you are right about needing red in the border. Maybe on your design wall you could trial a narrow red border with and without the blue to see which you like best.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonerful. I like the idea of a red border.

I would definitely add a narrow red border and then the purple flower border next. Any chance you'd have enough also for a red binding? Love the purple and red together.
ReplyDeleteI would also use a small red border before the purple border. I think it would frame your hearts nicely. Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh I would definitly add that thin watermelon red border! I think that would really make it pop! Also, go for it with the FMQ! It just take a bit of courage and so practice to get started!
ReplyDeleteLove that cute little cross stitch pattern!
ReplyDeleteI love your purple hearts quilt!
