Border Patrol or to sash or not to Sash!

Decisions Decisions!  I can't make one!   I have finished all the flower blocks I am planning to make now - all 36.  Now I can't decided whether to just but the blocks up against each other, to separate them with yellow sashing, or even another colour or .....................
I don't think I like this fabric for the border, maybe for the backing.  I am thinking something yellow with maybe strips or and all over pattern - help - what do you think?

  1. I am loving the layout for the flowers Jan-Maree! I do think you need something separating the flowers, but I'm not sure on what colouring to go with - though yellow would work, I think you need the 'right' shade. Also, that floral fabric on the left would definitely be gorgeous for the backing, or bordering - or even both!
But then, you have much more experience working these things out than me! I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with - I know that whatever combination you decide on will look Gorgeous!!

  2. Well, I agree with you. From the picture (it may look different in person) I don't like the fabric for the border. It seems to dull down the beautiful flowers. I guess about sashing, it depends on if you want the quilt bigger or not. You never know sometimes until you audition different colors, but you have an excellent eye, Jan-Maree, so I know whatever you end up with, will be pleasing!

  3. I like the idea of sashing - I do have trouble visualizing but maybe see how it would look with sashing around the flowers grouped in 4's - although it might make it look like tic-tac-toe!

  4. I think you are right, the border fabric doesn't add anything to those pretty flowers. Maybe just a narrow lattice would frame the flowers--have to try and see.

  5. I like the flowers as they are, just like in a bouquet. That fabric does "dull down" the flowers. Maybe a solid border to make the flowers "pop?"

  6. I love how your flowers turned out. I think unless you want a bigger quilt do not use sashing. I like it the way it is.

  7. I'm with the no sashing on this particular quilt. I really like the way the flowers look together. Sashing would "individualize" the flowers. It's going to be gorgeous no matter what decision you make! Nice job!

  8. I like the flowers with no sashing, although it would look great either way. I don't mind the border you have there, but I would add a solid narrow inner border between it and the flowers, just to frame them. But what do I know...I am a beginner! Great job.

  9. My vote is with most of the others...no sashing. The flowers are so pretty in that bouquet-looking arrangement. I'd go with a yellow to match the background for binding and just let the flowers float across the quilt. They are so pretty!

  10. I am finding more and more of my quilts lately do not want borders. Sashings are not so popular either lately! These quilts do tell us what they want.
    Great blocks--love the flowers.
