I have been fighting off a bug, an annoying bug, that isn't making me really sick, just making me just tired enough that I am not up to my usual game! and I keep needing a nap each day - frustrating! Anyway, I haven't felt all that much like concentrating when I sew so I decided to get a head start on my green scraps for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!
First I sorted thru my two huge grocery bags of green scraps and found all the biggish odds and ends and started cutting 5 inch squares. Made it to 200!! Decided that I needed a contrasting colour - red is too christmassy, yellow is too aussie (not that I mind being patriotic but not this time) pink is out coz my son might like the quilt without pink and I just may give it to him, blue was done in January so not enough scraps. In the end I decided that it was a good chance to use up some of the beige/pale tan fabric odds and ends that I have and don't particularly like. Another 200 five inch squares! Last night sat in front of the TV and drew diagonal lines on all the pale ones and you guessed it I am already to sew half square triangles.
Now I had a huge pile of squares all pinned and ready to sew. I started sewing today and more tonight. After I had sewn some I threw them up on the design wall - if only you could throw them!
First I tried this............
Then this - and yes I know there are a couple of mistakes..............
and last I tried this.
At the moment I am leaning towards Option 2. My quilt group and I made one of these for charity last year and just happen to be making another one this year. I actually really like this pattern but I am going to keep auditioning patterns in case i find something that appeals more - not sure that will happen but you never know!
Now...what do you all think? Do you have a favourite or have you made a half square pattern that you like and which you think these blocks would lend themselves to?
That is it for me tonight. The boys are about to come home from Youth Group and my goal is to get them off to bed and than I will be right behind them! Till next time....
Happy stitching!
Ooh, I hope you're feeling better by now. It amazes me how much you accomplish when you're not feeling well! If only I had that energy! I like the first option as it reminds me of giant rickrack and I think it looks really nice. Any of the options will be great though so I can't wait to see what you do. Feel better.
ReplyDeleteOk, you have inspired me to go take a look at my scraps! I really like the first one too, but #2 would be my second choice. I love these colors together.
ReplyDeleteI like #2, and #3 would be my next choice---it is going to be nice whatever you decide. Hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteWow - you weren't kidding when you said you had lots of green scraps! I like either option 1 or 2 the best.
ReplyDeleteOh I hope you are feeling better soon. So annoying to not feel up to your "A" game! I think I like option #2 the best, but keep fooling around with them, that is certainly the fun part right?!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been busy. I wish I could be this productive on a 'good day' :) I can't believe you managed to get all this done while not feeling so good. I love option 2!
ReplyDeleteThat is alot of 5 inch squares. My favorite choice is the second one. I like the color choice you are using. Hope you get to feeling better soooon.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
donna
I like option 2...
ReplyDeletehope you feel better real soon!!!
ReplyDeletelove what you are doing with your blocks!!!! I might have to borrow it one month!!! If I had to choose a design, I would go for option #1!!!
Can't wait to see what you do!!1 either option will look awesome!

I like option 2. It's going to be wonderful whichever one you choose. Hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better soon. They are all wonderful, but my favorite would be #2. Can't wait to see the final product.
ReplyDeleteI like all of them. Sorry I don't have a favorite.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is A LOT of green scraps. It must feel fabulous to have them all sewn together and ready to turn into something fantastic. Any log cabin settings would work with your blocks. I could even see a star. I love the second choice with best, though they are all great.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! I like all three opinions and I´m looking forward to your finnished project.
ReplyDeleteYour green half square triangles are just delightful. All of your arrangements look nice, I happen to like the zig zag look in the 3rd photo. It looks like a chevron shape! You already have so much accomplished.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better! I like the 1st one the best but both are neat.
ReplyDeleteThink I like the second one too. Amazing how many square you managed to get.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon
Hope you feel better soon. I like the second one too... but I've done a star shape with triangles.... way back in my blog around Jan/Feb/March of 2009 in black and white. Carpenters wheel can be done with it too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better soon. Inspite of feeling unwell you have managed to make all these half square triangles, bravo! I doubt I could get these done on a good day/week.
ReplyDeleteI like the middle design but I once made a small quilt using hsts and it was similar to your first design above but with the 'geese' going in opposite directions. You can see it on my Flickr page here:-

This is going to be a beautiful green quilt however you decide to go.
They are all fabulous! What about sewing 2 HST's together as a flying geese unit and have them flying in rows up and down and call it "spring returns"?!?
ReplyDeleteLove your scrappy greens. Can't believe how many you had to cut up that size! All your options are good. I like to make stars of them. http://www.straw.com/equilters/library/blocks/HalfSqTriangles.html has some blocks, but not the sawtooth star. You can undoubtedly figure that one out anyway.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of your green fabrics! I like both settings, but the first is my favorite.
