A new start for Gumnuts

The Gumnuts Quilters had our regular meeting today at my home.  We got started on our first charity quilt for the year.  This one is raffled ( I think) at an annual charity Mother's Day Lunch in the city.  I never go but some of the other girls go.  They get a table together and eat lovely food, listen to an interesting speaker and celebrity spot a little and generally have a great time.

We are making a medallion quilt based around the lovely floral posy on this green fabric (ignore the pinks and purple in the background)
Today we cut all the squares for 90 pinwheels to surround the medallion and decided on the fabrics that will form the inner border around the medallion. We each ended up with a bunch of pinwheels to take home and sew for homework.  I sewed mine tonight but I still need to press them.  Too tired tonight and I have to go and collect Guitar Hero from his last shift at KFC.  I will show you a proper pic tomorrow night when they are all pressed.  I think this is going to be a really fresh pretty quilt.
This is Mary.  She is our long distance Gumnut.  She used to live in Sydney but moved to Tasmania when her hubby resigned from the Navy.  She arrived up yesterday for her grandson's 1st birthday.  Mary is the recipient of the chook quilt.  As soon as she said she LOVED it, it was hers!  I would much rather work on something else and I would much rather it go to someone who loves it!
 Till next time.................happy stitching!

  1. sounds lovely, great to have a group and get together and quilt.
there's a group of crafty ladies in my neighborhood where we meet once a month, 3 of us quilt, some crochet, scrapbook or just come to chit chat. I love groups like that

  2. Your raffle quilt will be lovely, nice colors and fabrics. What fun to be a Gumnut.

  3. hope Mary enjoys her visit and lets us see the finished chooks xx

  4. Great fabric choice for your raffle quilt... way to go Mary don't forget to let us see the finished quilt xxx

  5. I am always a sucker for flowers!!!! Can't wait to see it!

  6. I love the fabrics. Pinwheels are so much fun.

  7. This looks like it will be a beautiful quilt! Your friend Mary is so lucky to received the chook quilt and I agree that it is always so enjoyable to give one to someone who loves it!

  8. Lucky for you (and them) that you are part of such a great group. I bet Mary will take very good care of the quilt.
