Red Runner

Just a quick post tonight as it is late but i wanted to get in a post about my Scrappy Sunday (instead of Saturday) efforts.  I spent most of Friday night and Saturday ironing, cutting and sorting for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge  - Red for the month of February.  I didn't get any sewing done on it so I got stuck into it today in between tidying, laundry, ironing, and so on.  This is what I have come up with so far -
It is going to be a table runner for the sofa table in the family room.  It is currently long enough to cover the top and with the green border it will be wide enough but I want to add to the end to make some overhang and am not convinced of the way ahead.  I also need to think about the green border - maybe a red or deep burgundy would be better?  I only have two inches to play with so can't do more than one border.  I am thinking triangular ends of more pieced strips.  I was also thinking of appliqueing something over the top - ochre or mustard coloured stars were my first thought but I think that would make it very Christmas-y.  Any suggestions?  Or should I keep it plain.

Oh well, for now it is off to bed - the cool change came thru today after a week or more of record breaking hot weather.  I expect it will be easier to sleep tonight than it has been for a week so I intend to make the best of it before the hot weather comes back.

Happy stitching!

  1. The red strips are really great and this will be a great runner. No suggestions for you but will be anxious to see what you come up with.

  2. That's a very nice table runner. How about a black trim instead of green? Any color you use, though, will be beautiful!!

  3. I love it! I agree that stars might make it Christmas like, especially with a green border. I like the idea of burgundy or black. I guess you will just have to try a few out and see what hit you as perfect.

  5. What a fabulous start to the red runner. I like it a lot and I agree with putting on the triangular ends! I vote for the burgundy or black edging to keep it in the family of reds, but that's just my opinion.

  7. What a great table runner this will be. I think it looks great as it is, don't think I would make any changes though I do like the idea of a black border....
