Another Gumnuts Day

Gumnuts had our regular fortnightly meeting today and we worked like mad on the quilt for the teenage daughter in the Family of Five.  We are using Kaffe fabrics and a lovely white quilters muslin to make 11" pinwheel blocks and boy! do they look great!  I sat at the machine and everyone had a job be it pinning, trimming, ironing, cutting, matching pinwheel halves, whatever.  No pictures unfortunately as I was too busy  all the time but we managed to get all 42 pinwheels completed and even managed to get some trimmed.  There was no sense in trying to get them all trimmed today as it was well into the afternoon by then, and we were starting to wear out so Andrea has taken them home to complete the job at home.   Sure wish I had pictures to show you but trust me - they look gorgeous!

What I can show you though is the cute little quilt that Andrea made for the youngest little girl for her snuggle quilt.  It is made of flannel and is so soft and snuggly.  The young miss is bound to love it.

 And I can also show you the gorgeous bed quilt that Irene sewed for her - how pretty is this?

Every cute girly thing you cold possibly hope for is features in this quilt - mermaids, princesses, angels, butterflies, cupcakes,sprinkles and sparkles and lots of glittery bits.  It is just gorgeous!

 And this is the pillowcase to match that Irene made for her using this tutorial.  How cute is this?  This is the first pillowcase that Irene has made, but I don't think it will be her last.  I think I see pillowcases in the future for her three lucky grandchildren.

Plans for our family of five!

A couple of days ago I told you that the Gumnuts and I, after a request from Posie Patchwork (who is currently recovering from hand surgery) are going to make quilts for a family of five who have lost everything in a house fire.  As I said then, how do you come back from that?  It isn't the furniture, the plates, the clothes you lose but the sentimental things - Aunt Betty's jug, Grandpa's pictures, wedding photos, kids' toys and so on -the things that money cannot replace.  

Well the Gumnuts have put their heads together and have come up with a plan.  Three quilts measuring 60" x 75" are going to be made for the three children - a high school  girl, ten year old boy and younger primary school daughter.  

The High schooler is going to receive a pin wheel quilt of white with Kaffe and Kaffe-like fabrics. It is going to be fresh and clean, no muddy colours.  The younger girl will be getting a pretty disappearing nine patch, mostly pink with some sparkly teal/green.  And the following picture gives you a sneak peak of the boy's quilt fabrics.  The car fabric was donated by Del and the cars are huge - we are aiming for a quilt suitable for a 10 year old going on teen!

The lovely Christine is going to quilt this quilt top donated by my non-blogging friend Sandi and this will go to the parents.

Now I am wondering if anyone out there would like to donate too.  I am thinking pillowcases, cushion covers, tote bags or shopping bags for the girls, decorated tea towels and potholders, maybe a table runner or table topper for Mum. I even thought it might be nice if we can send down a lap quilt for each of the kids for TV time.  One of the Gumnuts, Andrea, is currently making a snuggle size lap quilt for the youngest so lap quilts for the two oldest would be great!  They don't want to have to haul their quilts off their beds.   I don't know if any of you have time to get involved in this but I figured it was worth a try.  If you think you can do something please leave a comment or send me an email.  Of course this might be a bit too expensive for international followers to get involved in due to the cost of postage so don't feel obligated.
