Still got data......for now

Fair dinkum!!!!   What a day!!!! If it isn't my sons using up all the data  (420GB out of 500GB gone as of a couple of minutes ago) then it is my hubby sending me pictures of his dessert tonight.  Not only am I stuck at home with the two lovely teens but hubby first sent me a text saying he is on an amazing boat, apparently worth $16M, for a sit down dinner.......................really?   And I thought he was an intelligent man.  And then.....

AND THEN!!!!!  

HE SENT ME THIS!!!!!!   

Creme Brulee - my absolute favourite desert!

Now I am really questioning his IQ!   Seriously!

I had baked beans on toast!!!

Of course he doesn't know that I was already having  a BLAH kind of day - cabin fever I decided and retail therapy was the prescription - lucky I didn't know about the boat and the desert then!

First I bought these two mugs/bowls.  They are really a little too big to be mugs but too small to really be used for all deserts.  I love them though.  They are more pink that they look in the photo.

Next I headed off to Country Pickins and grabbed some red and blue - these are for the latest Aussie Heroes BOM. 

And finally I grabbed some more laundry bag fabric for Aussie Heroes - LOVE THESE DOGS!

AND, just for me, some more napkin fabrics!  Delicious cakes, scrummy donuts, fabulous jun foods, red hot chillis and cabbages!  These will be fun when I sew them up!  

 I hope to be back tomorrow with a special finish and a few other bits and pieces ........as long as the data has not disappeared!

Aw ain't they cute!

This cute couple are my lovely friends, Tarja and Jouni!  Tarja is my "sisterhood" sister and if you remember I made her three aprons for her birthday, an everyday one, a Christmas one and an Easter one!  The family went away for the Easter weekend and look at the photo I received - Tarja in her Easter apron, with her hunky hubby!  Thanks Tarja!!!  

Love log cabins and these five inch ones are particularly cute.  These are part of a swap that my friend Celia and I have been doing - I see a table runner coming on with these.

 The other part of the swap is these 6" tumbler blocks - another table runner I feel!

And this is what I sent Celia - as well as a whole bunch of 2 1/2 inch 1930's squares but I haven't a photo of them coz that would not be very exciting!  

Guess what I have been sewing tonight - yep!  Pot Holders!  Still a few more to go I am afraid!  Love these ones.  Would love to have that gorgeous Eiffel Tower fabric on the back of all of them but alas only enough for one - might send that one to my sister as a reminder of her recent time in Paris.  I have to share this story that my niece shared about my sister, her Mum.  To me it speaks of the lovely relationship between these two but it is also really funny I think!

 I have to tell you a story....Mum will hate it but it was VERY funny and had us both in stitches at the time! As we were walking along the platform to exit 'La Defense' station, Mum, without thinking, chucked her train ticket away on one of the bins provided along the platform. Some stations require the ticket to exit; some don't and as we had just gotten off the train, we were unsure which it would be. As we continued to walk along, I turned to Mum and said, "I probably wouldn't have done that Mum" and she kept walking and then went "S***" as it dawned on her and she turned around and headed back for the bin....exclaiming "s***" again as she walked towards the bin. I was in hysterics just hearing mum swearing (my sister doesn't swear normally) and was doubled over in laughter which continued as I then watched her helplessly while she was doubled over going through the bin to get her ticket out (the bins are very deep and hang off the edge of the ground.) It must have been the only time during the day that mum had her camera on her and I could not get any evidence of this homeless person she had turned into.....jeepers it was funny.....she was laughing at what she was doing and I was laughing too hard to help her.....she was VERY grateful that I could not get access to the camera.....we then proceeded to go up the stairs to the exit....which did not require the ticket....started us laughing all over again...and we have been laughing ever since....what a goose!!!

How priceless is that!  So the potholders are bound to give her a smile!

luckily neither of them read my blog.......I don't think......

My other sewing is not very exciting but in the interest of full disclosure here it is - another napkin!  Yep, just one!  I only have enough fabric for one but I have decided to grab out all sorts of different fabrics and make lots of JUST ONE napkins just to make life interesting!  of course, cooking for and eating with two teenage boys is usually pretty interesting but you don't need to know any more about that.......trust me!

Now, a warning!   The teens are on holidays and although we have 500GB - (yes, that is FIVE HUNDRED GIGABYTES!!!!!)  they are using up our data at an alarming (but not surprising) rate again (AGAIN!).  So, just in case I don't post again for a while I will be back on the 25th of April when our data limit clicks over again----- here is hoping they see sense and slow down their usage because quite frankly a home with two teens on holidays and no internet DOES NOT BEAR THINKING ABOUT!

Tarja, who came yesterday with her daughter, to help layer the two quilts for her Mother and MIL brought this gorgeous book to show me!  Her sister in law gave it to her.  I hope you can see from the photos that all these pages have been hand quilted!  The label on the back says Vietnam Quilts - no other hints.  I just had to share it with you!  Enjoy! Make sure you look at the detail - there are some very funny bits on each page!

Tech help please

Can someone please tell me how to make the pic at the top of my Aussie Heroes Blog take up the whole width - need help - please!  I found yelling at the screen didn't work so any more helpful suggestions would be great!

layer upon layer upon layer.....

 Way back my friends, Tarja and her lovely daughter Jess (hiding in the corner of this shot) came and started working on two quilts, one for Tarja's Mother and one for her MIL.  The three of us managed to get all the blocks sewn for both quilts and then I sewed both tops together and pieced the backings.  Today it was time to layer them both.  First the mother-in-law's.

 Then the mother's, each a slightly different variation of the disappearing nine patch.  Both Mums live in Finland but never see each other so their similarity is not a problem.  Tarja's mother loves Australian native birds so the fabric was an easy choice.

After those two were pinned and ready Tarja and Jess helped me to layer this quilt which is a special quilt that I am making for Aussie Heroes.  

 This one is going to be a wall hanging.....

 and this one is a surprise for the fellow who requested the wall hanging for the office area.

 And this is the shot that we rarely see!  What goes on behind the quilts that are being held up for photos!

And Jess will kill me!

I am on the lookout for some more Aussie fabrics so if anyone sees any on special, particularly online, please let me know!  I want to have some on hand seeing as they are really useful for the WWQs and so on. 

I am hoping that there is a fair bit of quilting in my weekend but I definitely know there is also some grocery shopping (boring!) and dinner and a movie with hubby (Yay).

How embarrassment!

Round Robin Finale Part 2

Well, here we are again with the Round Robin Finale Part 2.   I think some of us thought we might never get to this point but we did and really enjoyed seeing all the final quilt tops.

This one is Audrey's.  The colours are soft and gentle, just like Audrey.

Hers is huge - the largest at 90" square.

My contribution was the pink floating squares and yes, they took a while!

Del chose a really cute stitcherie which she copied from a card that started out about 2" square!

I added a border of tumblers - go to love my Accuquilt Go!

 

We all loved the centre of Andrea's!  How cool is this!

This ended up such a pretty quilt.

I had it easy and added the think dark blue followed by one of my favourite florals and echoed the circle in the middle by using my new drunkard's path templates. 

Cynthia had us all stumped!  What to do with this.  She explained that she wanted something bright, in your face, and something that sort of had an islander feel.

She also said she wanted a single bed sized quilt so when I was my turn I elongated it.

I added the purple panels with the hibiscus flowers on them.  Cynthia was the only one who wasn't there on Wednesday so I hope she likes it.

I love this split border - tiny pieced squares look so good there!

And finally mine.   This ended up being the smallest quilt of all.  The little stitchery in the middle was done by my mum before she passed away.  1930's fabrics just seemed to compliment the colours in the stitching perfectly.

This is the only one that I don't have a good photo of from the day and I also don't have one of me standing in front of it - which is actually quite a good thing if you ask me!  

 Audrey mimicked the flowers that my Mum had embroidered when she did her borders and she also added buttons which I love.  I used to often suggest embellishing some of our group quilts with buttons but noone else likes that idea so I don't suggest it anymore but I am glad they are on my quilt.  I would have loved that as a little girl.

 Glenys did a yellow piano key border and added grandmother's fan cornerstones, another of my favourite blocks.

 Cynthia added more little flowers to match my Mum's.  Just such a lovely thoughtful little touch.

 And you can't beat the tiny yellow squares and the flying geese and pinwheels - two more favourite blocks of mine.

When it is finished, hopefully later this year, this is going on the day bed in my office where there will be no teenage boys eating or drinking anywhere near it!
