A stellar evening

Well last night I sewed stars and got one wrong but tonight I unpicked and resewed and this time I did it right!  AND I LOVE the way these stars look together!

I think I need to make another few and I will have enough for a quilt.  I only want to make a small one so that I can get it quilted and laundered as I am dying to see how the cream recycled curtain fabric washes up.  I have so much of it to use.

Well, it was supposed to be two stars...

But dag gummit! I messed one up!  Grr.  Oh well. I was determined to have some free time tonight to sew but life got in the way.  I did manage a little though and I thought I was going to have two stars to show for it but just as I was ironing them I noticed my mistake!  

Oh well, that can be an unpicking job for tomorrow.  I am really curious to know how this cream fabric is going to wash up so I am thinking of making these into a table runner or a small quilt so that I can throw it in the wash and see how they come up.  I figure there must be a lot of dressing in the cream curtain fabric I am using!

Maybe I will get a few more done tomorrow night.

Banana Bread Anyone?

Mmm, just out of the oven.  Wish we could share it.  I only made it coz I had two old bananas that needed using up and I googled and found a rally quick recipe.  And I mean really quick!

You will find the recipe here.  Now here is hoping that my kids will eat it - don't count on it - it doesn't contain chocolate so there are no guarantees!

No time for my sewing. Tonight I was finishing off a bunch of labels for Aussie Hero Quilts as I have 13 quilts waiting to be quilted and I am hoping to get them done this week.  

Even Maisy is making me feel guilty!  

This is the day bed in my office and here she is snuggled up between some washed and yet to be folded sheets and some pillows.  "Surely it is time for bed Mum?"  I think she is right.

1/4 done

This is what I have been doing tonight.   I am one quarter of the way through sewing together the quilt tops for my girlfriend's mother and mother-in-law.  The last time I showed you these quilts in progress was here when Tarja and Jess came over to work on them. Tonight I started sewing the first one together and I am half way there  - that means a quarter of the way towards having two quilt tops.

I am really liking these colours and the birds.  I hope to finish sewing the top together tomorrow night.  Wish me luck!

pick a card, any card

Or at least choose the card that best suits your needs.  That is what the Aussie soldiers in Afghanistan will soon be able to do. These are some gorgeous cards that my niece and my sister-in-law have just finished making for me to send over.

I think they are fabulous.  They look even better close up.  I am not posting them on AHQ as I do not want to start receiving all manner of homemade things but I know these will be well used.  My brother-in-law spoke to someone who has come back from over there and he said there was a box of cards in the common room that people could go and help themselves to and that is where these are destined to go.

no sewing here today - I spent an age on the phone on three different occasions  yelling at  talking to our internet service provider as we lost everything today - not happy.  As you can see it came back but it wasted so much time.  then it was time to do the taxi driver bit and it hasn't finished yet - I am off again in a few minutes to collect Fly Boy from Youth Group.  Luckily hubby is home and can to the midnight pickup from KFC for Guitar Hero's last shift.

I am off now - need a good night sleep so I can do something useful tomorrow to catch up!

Pinwheels......

Managed to iron all my pinwheels today.  I am looking forward to seeing all 90 of them together.  

I haven't had time to do much tonight as I had to go to a meeting at school with Guitar Hero so I thought I would show you something that my Dad made.  It is typical of his sense of humour.

This is a Genuine Leather Irish calculator!  

It is easy to operate.
Needs no batteries.
Needs no maintenance.
Can be used left or right handed.
Can be used as a calibrator.
Multipurpose
Complete with memory card See "M".
Light weight.
Fully floating left or right hand thumb.
Can be used by young or old.
Can be used as beer mat.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Insert four fingers and one thumb of either left or right hand into holes.

3. Memory cord may wound round any finger if memory is required.

A new start for Gumnuts

The Gumnuts Quilters had our regular meeting today at my home.  We got started on our first charity quilt for the year.  This one is raffled ( I think) at an annual charity Mother's Day Lunch in the city.  I never go but some of the other girls go.  They get a table together and eat lovely food, listen to an interesting speaker and celebrity spot a little and generally have a great time.

We are making a medallion quilt based around the lovely floral posy on this green fabric (ignore the pinks and purple in the background)

Today we cut all the squares for 90 pinwheels to surround the medallion and decided on the fabrics that will form the inner border around the medallion. We each ended up with a bunch of pinwheels to take home and sew for homework.  I sewed mine tonight but I still need to press them.  Too tired tonight and I have to go and collect Guitar Hero from his last shift at KFC.  I will show you a proper pic tomorrow night when they are all pressed.  I think this is going to be a really fresh pretty quilt.

 This is Mary.  She is our long distance Gumnut.  She used to live in Sydney but moved to Tasmania when her hubby resigned from the Navy.  She arrived up yesterday for her grandson's 1st birthday.  Mary is the recipient of the chook quilt.  As soon as she said she LOVED it, it was hers!  I would much rather work on something else and I would much rather it go to someone who loves it!
